HEAR FROM OUR PATIENTS

Success Stories

At AFC Tennessee, nothing brings us greater joy than seeing our patients return to the activities they love, pain-free and confident in every step. Our patients’ journeys—from that first consultation through recovery and beyond—inspire everything we do. Whether overcoming chronic foot pain, recovering from surgery, or finally finding relief from a long-standing condition, each story represents a life-improved and a goal achieved. We’re honored to share these experiences and celebrate the courage, dedication, and trust our patients place in our care.

JJ Slowinski:
Big Toe Joint Personal Story

For years, JJ struggled with constant pain in her big toe joint. Simple, everyday activities—walking through the grocery store, hiking, or even enjoying time with family—became uncomfortable and frustrating. She tried to push through the pain, but it eventually began affecting her quality of life.

After a thorough evaluation with Dr. Hyde, we discussed her treatment options and determined that surgery would give her the best chance at long-term relief and improved mobility. While the decision wasn’t easy, she felt confident moving forward with a plan designed specifically for her needs.

Following surgery and recovery, the difference was life changing. Her big toe joint pain was significantly reduced, and she was finally able to return to her normal day-to-day activities without constantly thinking about her feet. Walking felt natural again, and she regained the freedom to move comfortably and confidently. She is planning on getting her other big toe fixed within this next year.

When a Previous Surgery Needs a Second Look: A Patient’s Journey to Relief
Sometimes, foot and ankle surgery doesn’t deliver the long-term relief a patient hoped for. That was the case for one of our recent patients, who came to our office after continuing pain from a prior procedure performed elsewhere. At their first visit, we performed a thorough evaluation, including imaging and a detailed review of the previous surgery.

We identified that the original issue had not been fully corrected, and in some areas, the foot mechanics were contributing to continued pain. After discussing all options, we developed a customized surgical plan focused on correcting the underlying structural problem, improving alignment, and restoring proper function. The goal wasn’t just to “fix” the previous surgery—but to fix the problem.

The procedure was performed with precision, focusing on stability, healing, and long-term outcomes.
